Bringing the Spirit of Modern Beach Clubs to the Baltic Coast

About The Project

Distinctive hospitality concept inspired by the relaxed character of contemporary beach destinations, reinterpreted for the climate and landscape of the German Baltic coast.

THE BEACH is an 87-room hotel & spa located directly on the Baltic coast in Scharbeutz, with extensive views towards the sea.

The design vision was to move beyond the conventional seasonal seaside-hotel aesthetic and create a destination with its own strong identity — relaxed enough for a beach environment, yet sophisticated and atmospheric enough to become an attractive year-round retreat.

The concept combines contemporary hospitality design with influences from relaxed international beach destinations. Travertine and stone textures, warm timber, linen, woven elements, handcrafted pieces, greenery and a deep earthy colour palette establish a natural connection with the surrounding landscape.

Turning a Seasonal Location into a Year-Round Escape

Challanges

interiors needed to feel naturally connected to the Baltic Sea during summer while remaining equally inviting during the long, colder and darker months. Instead of relying on a light coastal aesthetic, the concept uses deeper tones, warm woods, textured surfaces, layered textiles and atmospheric lighting to create a sense of shelter, intimacy and warmth.

At the same time, the property required the practicality of a high-traffic hospitality environment. Materials, furniture and finishes were considered not only for their visual character but also for durability, maintenance and everyday hotel operations.

Another objective was differentiation. The hotel needed to be immediately recognisable and visually memorable rather than reproducing the conventional design language commonly associated with Baltic beach hotels.

Despite its strong identity, the experience was designed to remain comfortable and informal. Guestrooms feel residential rather than institutional; public areas encourage guests to stay rather than simply pass through; and natural textures, soft furnishings and warm lighting introduce the feeling of a relaxed beach home.
